My bio
Purnima Kumar, Ph.D, is an assistant professor with the department of psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, and a faculty member of ÂÜÀòÉç Psychiatry in Jacksonville since 2007. She is a licensed psychologist in the state of Florida, with extensive experience in providing individual and group psychotherapy.
Dr. Kumar graduated from the Patna University in Bihar, India, with a doctorate in psychology. She obtained a master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University of North Florida. She is an active member of the American Psychological Association and the Northeast Florida Chapter of the Florida Psychological Association.
Dr. Kumar also works with ÂÜÀòÉç Jacksonville’s community health and family medicine department, collaborating with physicians and health care providers in providing whole person care to patients. She offers counseling for individuals ages 12 and older, as well as individual and group therapy, mini mental status assessments, ADHD evaluations, psychosocial evaluations, as well as evaluations for gastric bypass surgery. Dr. Kumar specializes in treating anxiety, chronic pain, depression, grief, parenting issues, stress management, trauma and women’s issues.
In her free time, Dr. Kumar enjoys listening to music, reading, singing, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.
