Description
Lifes Course: The Load, The Impact is an Urban Health Alliance initiative underway in collaboration with LaRae Brown, MD, FACOG, assistant professor, medical director, 蹤獲扦 Womens Health Specialists, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Florida College of Medicine Jacksonville. The work, an educational outreach program, will focus on preconception health of women across our community.
Building upon the work of Dr. Michael Lu and Dr. Arline T. Geronimus, the Life Course Model, Toxic Stress and Preconception Health have driven the system of care at the Magnolia Project, an initiative of the Northeast Florida Healthy Start Coalition and federal Healthy Start program for over 20 years.
To launch the program, we have invited Dr. Arline T. Geronimus, author of Weathering: The Extraordinary Stress of Ordinary Life in an Unjust Society, to visit 蹤獲扦 Jacksonville Thursday, Sept. 21.
Dr. Geronimus will discuss her research on the health and societal effects of stress on women of child-bearing age.
Dr. Geronimus is a renowned public health researcher who coined the term weathering to describe the effects of systemic issues and how they impact physical and behavioral health. In her book, based on more than 30 years of research, she argues that health and aging have more to do with how society treats us than how well we take care of ourselves.
